Matthew Centrowitz is currently a professional runner for Nike training under Alberto Salazar as part of the Oregon Project. Centrowitz has had an incredible professional career so far.  In 2016, Centrowitz became the first American since 1904 to win the 1500m at the Olympic Games. He is five times national champion in the 1500m as well as Bronze medalist at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea and Silver medalist at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Russia both at 1500m.  In 2012 Centrowitz finished 2nd at the US Olympic Trials to make his first Olympic team where he finished 4th at 1500m.  Some other notable victories for the young American middle distance star are his Wanamaker Mile win at the 2012 Millrose games followed by his win at the Fifth Avenue Mile in New York City later that year.

 

Centrowitz had an outstanding collegiate career at the University of Oregon where he was 3 times Pac-10 Champion in the 1500m and 2011 NCAA Champion in the 1500m.  7 times All-American and school record holder in the 1500m as well as a member of the school record DMR.  Helped the Ducks to their first ever NCAA Indoor title with a 6th place finish in the Mile.

 

While a student at Broadneck High School in Maryland, Centrowitz was Maryland 4A State champion 3 times.   As a junior in the spring of 2006, he won the Penn Relays 3,000 meters in 8:20.09, a time that ranked him second on the national season best list. At the state level, he won the 1,600 meter title as a senior (state meet record 4:04.09) and 3,200 meter title as a junior (9:13.68). Centrowitz finished eighth in the 2006 Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships as a senior. Earlier in the fall season, he placed fifth in the Foot Locker Northeast Regional.  Centrowitz won the 2007 Pan American Junior Championships 1,500 meter title (3:56.63).
